Commencement of Voluntary Assisted Dying

The ANMF therefore would like to advise members that the End-of-Life Choices (Voluntary Assisted Dying) Act 2021 has commenced, meaning voluntary assisted dying is now a legal option for eligible Tasmanians and members may receive queries from patients, clients, and residents across all sectors.

Therefore, the ANMF would encourage members to view the resources located on the Department of Health Voluntary Assisted Dying website located here: Voluntary Assisted Dying | Tasmanian Department of Health.

Resources included on the page include:

  • Information on how to make a first request to access voluntary assisted dying.
  • Information about how to access training for voluntary assisted dying – a short awareness unit, and the full Tasmanian Voluntary Assisted Dying training to be a participating practitioner.
  • Information on minimum obligations for medical practitioners and other registered health practitioners.
  • Information on minimum requirements for health and aged care facilities.
