Aged Care Updates – Statewide

Statewide

Fair Work Commission award 15% pay increase to Nurses, Extended Care Assistants (ECAs) and Home Carers, Aged Care Registered Nurse Retention Payments; Apply before Wednesday 14 December 2022.

On Tuesday 1 November 2022, the ANMF released a newsflash communication with details of these payments. They are specific to Registered Nurses (RNs), and they are required to be requested by your facility manager, in the same way the recent COVID-19 payments were. They are payable to RNs who have worked for the same Aged Care employer between 31/10/2021 and 31/10/2022, but also for a 6-month period a half payment is due. In addition, there is an extra payment to those RNs in leadership roles, in rural areas, and with post graduate qualifications. Please click here for further details.

Also, please make sure to get your manager to check the broad eligibility criteria and apply for the funds as directed in the Department’s information page.

Southern Cross Care Tasmania Proposal to implement Household Model of Care

The ANMF has taken decisive action regarding this proposed change. Firstly, the ANMF has challenged Southern Cross Care (Tas) Inc. (SCCT) lack of consultation and transparency regarding the proposed changes, with the Fair Work Commission. This has led to SCCT being directed to broaden and extend the consultation period. Click here to view the latest ANMF newsflash communication. Also, the ANMF sent a delegation to Canberra to lobby Federal members and Ministers Mark Butler and Anika Wells. The ANMF understand the Aged Care Department are looking very closely at the proposed change and the implications for the broader aged care sector. Watch this space.

Southern Cross Care (Tas) Inc. Lack of Clinical Leadership

The ANMF encourage members to feedback issues related to absence or instability of leadership in Southern Cross Care (Tas) Inc. (SCCT) sites. Use internal SCCT reporting systems, and escalate to next level management if you can, to highlight the impact on your workload and morale. Notify the ANMF if you are unable to get a response from your internal systems, and managers.

North

My name is Nicki Hood, and I am delighted to join the Northern ANMF team as an Organiser. For members wondering who I am, I have recently moved from the North West, my previous role was as a Member Engagement Officer with the ANMF where I discovered I enjoyed advocating for members. I have close to 7 years experience as an Enrolled Nurse in the Aged Care sector, of which I am hugely passionate. I also have experience as a Carer and Health and Leisure Coordinator. I look forward to meeting members in the North over the coming weeks, so please pop in when I am in your workplace to say “Hi”.
