Public Sector Updates – South

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Ward 2A

The ANMF has, as per the vote of members at a meeting conducted on Wednesday 7 December 2022, notified the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) of the ratification of new benchmarking for General Medical Unit (Ward 2A). The results of benchmarking equated to an additional 0.81 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) of employable nursing staff which will serve to underpin the long-standing additional night shift nursing role which was previously employed for reasons of clinical safety.

Cardiac Cath Lab

The ANMF has written to the THS requesting a response to our letter, dated Friday 2 December 2022, outlining members overall support for the proposed increases to Cardiac Cath Lab (CCL) staffing. Outstanding issues include the classification of the ancillary education and clinical support role as well as drafting of the associated Statement of Duties (SoD). The THS reply is expected by close of business Friday 27 January 2023, following which it will be relayed to members for consideration.

Outpatient Oncology – Ward 8A

The ANMF continue to participate in conferences at the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) on behalf of members in pursuit of improved staffing and working conditions within the Outpatient Oncology Unit (Ward 8A). A meeting between the ANMF and the THS took place on Tuesday 24 January 2023 to finalise the Statement of Duties (SoD) for the mooted 1.0 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) position, with ancillary works ongoing. Members will be updated at a meeting once final outcomes of these works are reached.

Adult Community Mental Health Service (ACMHS) Continuing Care Teams (CCTs)

The 2022 Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) case continues. A survey was sent to relevant members late last year and ultimately there was an agreement that if three key conditions were met, the ANMF would put the TIC case into abeyance. Unfortunately, Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS) have failed to agree to the conditions and have written to the TIC requesting a further report back and input from the President to assist in resolving this case. This report back has been set for Friday 3 February 2023. The ANMF has requested that SMHS provide the ANMF with a counteroffer that can be taken to members for consideration before the report back date. Multidisciplinary Allowance

There are two updates relevant to this matter.

  1. ACMHS CCTs – Members have reported this week that the Multidisciplinary Allowance (MDA) has not been applied to their pay. The ANMF understand that Human Resources (HR) for the Department of Health (DoH) is currently working through this matter, with an understanding that the MDA was removed in error. This matter will be corrected in an upcoming pay period.   1. ACMHS Acute Care Team (ACT) – Members have long been awaiting the outcome of their case for payment of the MDA. The ANMF are aware of a meeting that is to take place between SMHS and HR to at last arrive at a decision on this matter. Relevant members have been notified. Bruny Island Community Health Centre

The ANMF received late correspondence from the THS that meant we cancelled the TIC to enable further consideration. The additional information strengthens our case. The ANMF consulted with members via a Teams meeting that took place on Tuesday 24 January 2023 to plan the next step.

Repatriation Centre Peacock 3 (P3)

The ANMF received a response to our correspondence and has met with members to discuss the response and plan our next steps. A grievance meeting will be scheduled by THS management soon, this will allow the ANMF to advocate strongly for members, ask to follow up questions and access more data in regard to workloads, staff turnover and rising acuity on the ward.
