Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Neurosurgical Unit K8W

The ANMF, having conducted a member meeting in K8W on Wednesday 22 February 2023, has written to Tasmanian Health Service (THS) senior management advising of member support for proposed Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) benchmarking outcomes. Member feedback regarding an anticipated increase in workloads associated with enaction of the Statewide Elective Surgery Four-Year Plan was also submitted along with a request for activity data to be reviewed 3-months following its instigation. The THS have indicated their willingness to undertake a review of staffing levels in order to ensure ongoing provision of safe patient care.

Medical Specialties 7A

The ANMF has forwarded all member feedback, collated at the meeting of 28 February 2023, to local area management for their consideration. The ANMF thank all members who attended the meeting and contributed a thorough and robust discussion of current nursing conditions within the unit.

Peacock 1

The ANMF continue to advocate for members working within Peacock 1 (Palliative and Geriatric Care Unit) to senior THS management regarding the pressing requirement for re-benchmarking as well as maintenance of safe-staffing commensurate with projections of roster shortfalls over the next month. The THS has advised the ANMF that daily reviews of clinical requirements in the context of staffing arrangements will be ongoing.

Maternity Services Unit K7

The ANMF will conduct a member meeting in the RHH Maternity Services Unit K7 on Friday 10 March 2023 at 1500hrs, in the Family Room (adjacent to the public elevator foyer). All members and prospective members are welcome to attend to discuss current midwifery conditions/considerations within the unit.

Repatriation Peacock 3

The Step 2 Grievance meeting took place on Monday 27 Feb 2023 at 1130hrs. The ANMF have demanded an interim safe-staffing plan to ensure the safety of staff and patients until the staffing issues flagged by members are resolved. The RHH Executive Director of Nursing (EDON) has promised to visit the ward and meet staff. The ANMF will follow up with a member meeting to discuss, after the EDON visit has occurred.
