The ANMF Call for State and Federal Political Support This International Nurses Day

12 May 2023

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation (ANMF) Tasmanian Branch is celebrating International Nurses Day today (Friday 12 May 2023) by recognising and thanking nurses across the state for their hard work and dedication to the profession. The ANMF are also calling on state and federal politicians today to show their support for the nursing workforce by implementing strategies that will sustain and grow the workforce in Tasmania.

The nursing workforce in Tasmania continuously faces challenges such as understaffing, overwork, and burnout, issues which the ANMF and it’s members see as requiring urgent attention and implementation of strategies such as increased funding, providing better working conditions, and providing better training and career development opportunities for Tasmanian nurses.

Nurses are the backbone of the healthcare system and play an integral role in providing quality patient care. The ANMF acknowledges that our members want their employers and the government to value the importance of their profession to our community and support their workforce by implementing strategies that will not only value and retain the current workforce but also attract new nurses to the state.

The ANMF encourages the government and employers to work together to provide nurses with the much needed support and resources they need to continue to provide high-quality patient care to Tasmanians.
