Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Proposed New Organisational Structure

The ANMF has written to Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management regarding the proposed new Launceston General Hospital (LGH) organisational structure, raising member’s concerns regarding a lack of consultation. View the latest update.

Emergency Department (ED)

On Friday 9 June 2023 the ANMF notified the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) about the workload dispute raised back in 2021 has now been resolved. The ANMF successfully advocated for and won an increase in 21.3 Full Time Equivalent (FTE) for the LGH ED to assist with workloads. This FTE has also facilitated the introduction of a Clinical Coach, and a further increase in FTE was also achieved by the introduction of a Clinical Nurse Consultant (CNC) for Quality and Safety. The ANMF will now focus on measures to relive bed block through advocacy at the LGH Safe Staffing meeting. Further updates to follow.

COVID-19 Support Positions

The ANMF has successfully negotiated a reprieve for our members regarding COVID-19 support positions for Ward 6D, Ward 5D, Ward 3R, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and ED. View the latest update.

Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS)

The ANMF has been contacted by members working in CAMHS North regarding sound levels between consulting rooms, making for a less than therapeutic environment, and also raising privacy concerns. The ANMF has requested this item to be placed on the agenda for discussion at the Statewide Mental Health Services (SMHS), Union Consultive Meeting. The meeting will be held on Wednesday 5 July 2023, and the ANMF will provide a further update.

Child Health and Parenting Service (CHaPS) North

The ANMF continues to work with members regarding the development of a nursing workload model. The next working group meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 4 July 2023. The ANMF will provide a further update when available.

Primary Health North, North Eastern Soldiers Memorial Hospital (NESMH)

The ANMF has confirmed, via Public Sector Enterprise Agreement (EA) negotiations, “in principle’’ support for dedicated Clinical Nurse Educators (CNEs) for our district hospitals. Further, specifically for NESMH the ANMF has circulated a tick sheet form for members to complete when excessive workloads occur. The tick sheet is in the handover room. The ANMF will reconvene a meeting with members in early July to discuss progress on this data collection. Further updates to follow.

District Hospitals

ANMF Northern Organiser Nicki Hood has visited various District Hospitals during June, where many sites have raised concerns about the CNE role within District Hospitals. The ANMF has won an “in principle” agreement from the THS to review this role. View the latest update.
