Public Sector Updates – North West
North West Regional Hospital (NWRH)
Operating Room Suite (ORS)
The ANMF met with North West Regional Hospital (NWRH) Operating Room Suite members on Friday 16 August 2024, to discuss proposed benchmarking. Members endorsed the new interim safe staffing benchmark, conditional upon a commitment to immediate recruitment to address the current shortfall in staffing. Industrial action will be initiated if the staffing issues are not resolved, limiting theatre operations to ensure safety.
Mersey Community Hospital (MCH)
Medical Ward
The ANMF is collaborating with Mersey Community Hospital (MCH) Medical Ward members regarding ongoing nursing workload challenges. Members have highlighted that the Nursing Hours per Patient Day (NHpPD) is not being rostered in its entirety and have today received assurance that the discrepancy will be corrected. Tasmanian Health Service (THS) management have committed to a review of the rostering practises and will work collaboratively with members and the ANMF to find solutions to their concerns. Members have committed to working to rule and work it claim it as actions that form part of the statewide campaign to address staffing concerns.
Emergency Department
The ANMF is in discussions with members at the MCH Emergency Department (ED) to potentially initiate a Code Yellow campaign in response to current bed block pressures. The ANMF will work with members to highlight these concerns to the Government and push for the additional resources that were previously promised under the Transfer of Care procedure. Further updates will follow.
Updates are correct as of 22 August 2024.
