Public Sector Updates – South

Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Department of Critical Care Medicine

In our dispute regarding compensation for 12 and a half hour shifts in the Department of Critical Care Medicine (DCCM) the Department failed to respond by the deadline set by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The Commission accordingly set a timetable to arbitrate the dispute, and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) has 6 weeks to prepare evidence.

We understand that in DCCM, nurses whose shift spans 12 and a half hours only record 12 hours worked on their timesheet, because of a 30-minute unpaid break. In contrast, nurses in the emergency department, where there are different arrangements for breaks, are paid for the full 12 and a half hours that they are required to attend for duty.

Updates are correct as of 21 August 2024.
