Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Intensive Care Unit

The Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) met with members in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH). View the latest update

Emergency Department (ED)

Following the six-week suspension of the Code Yellow industrial action at the LGH Emergency Department (ED), the ANMF met with members to review the progress made by the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) toward the agreed actions. View the latest update

Ward 5D

The ANMF recently met with members on Ward 5D at the LGH to revisit the Step 2 Grievance that has been left unresolved since October 2023. View the latest update

Renal North

The ANMF met with members at Renal North to discuss long-standing issues impacting the teams. The federal government committed to funding $10 million for community health services in 2019, the THS has recently announced this $10 million funding will provide Kings Meadows with 3 additional dialysis chairs taking the service to 18, this is despite expert projections indicating a need for 24 chairs and the service already operating at, or near capacity. Members are highly concerned that their voices are not being heard, and patients will suffer. The ANMF will continue to lobby the government for the provision of 24 chairs at Kings Meadows – this has been included in the ANMF’s election asks for the Tasmanian state election. The benchmarking increase from 2023 has also not been approved by Human Resources (HR), and this will likely be escalated to a step 2 grievance. Keep an eye out for updates.

Wombat Ward/ Paediatrics Outpatients

The ANMF has met with members on Wombat Ward, where staff raised concerns about roster shortfalls, excessive HR delays, overtime and a lack of pool staff to assist with shortfalls. After meeting with members in paediatric outpatients, a workload survey will be issued for members to complete, once data is collected, to reflect the concerns raised, the ANMF will be raising a grievance.

Primary Health North Allambie Service

The ANMF is aware that Tasmanian Health Service (THS) North is preparing to move services out of the Allambie Building in preparation for construction starting on a Hospice service. The ANMF has received the formal Change Proposal and encourages members to provide their feedback. Please note that an extension of feedback was sought and granted, with feedback now due by the close of business on Thursday 10 July. View the latest update

Updates are correct as of 26 June 2025.
