Emergency Department (ED)

The ANMF attended the LGH ED after being advised by members they were experiencing critical staff shortages and bed block.

When the ANMF attended, they discovered 2hr+ Transfer of Care (ToC) delays, 18+ patients in ED waiting for ward beds with the hospital at capacity, 8 patients in the waiting room waiting for a bed in ED and no resus bays available.

The Step 2 grievance for ED will likely be escalated to a step 3 and lodged with Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC).

Please continue to complete the active ED survey. Your feedback via this survey helps ANMF build the case for the TIC.

Grievances

A direction from the statewide dispute in the TIC was that the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) make time to meet with the ANMF to discuss all the outstanding grievances, the ANMF met with management at LGH to discuss the outstanding grievances below.

Intensive Care Unit (ICU)

The ANMF attended LGH ICU on Friday night 18 July 2025 after members reached out regarding senior staffing shortages. The ANMF will be holding a member meeting for ICU members Monday 28 July 1330 to 1430 to discuss the outstanding ICU grievance and for members to raise concerns.

Ward 5D

The Step 2 grievance was discussed. Management has advised they are still working on a way to fund clinical coaches for the ward; however, indicated that to do so, the funding would have to come from elsewhere. The ANMF will report this back to the TIC when the statewide dispute returns on Monday 28 July 2025. The ANMF will continue to advocate that clinical coaches are an additional and necessary resource for 5D.

Updates are correct as of Wednesday 23 July 2025.
