ANMF Newsflash RHH Patient Safety Assistants (PSA) Reduction Proposed

The ANMF has been advised that the Department is potentially looking to reduce the use of PSAs across the service.

In response, the ANMF has written to the Acting Executive Director (AED) of Nursing and Midwifery to formally raise serious concerns about the potential impact of any reductions to these important roles. View the latest update.

Emergency Department (ED) / Emergency Medical Unit (EMU)

The ANMF is writing to provide members in the ED and EMU with an update regarding a recently received change proposal. On Thursday 29 January 2026, the ANMF was provided with a proposal relating to the current Project/Research Nurse – Research and Performance Improvement positions within the ED.

Current Structure

The current Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) structure of these roles is:

  • FTE Permanent RN Grade 6 (currently filled by two nurses)
  • FTE Fixed Term RN Grade 6 (currently filled by two nurses)

What Change is Being Proposed?

The proposal seeks to amend the reporting lines for these positions.

Currently, these roles report through the ED Nurse Unit Manager (NUM).
The change proposal would move the reporting line to the:

  • Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), Emergency Care.
