Celebrating Daffodil Day with the nursing team

Tomorrow the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Federation Tasmanian Branch (ANMF) will recognise Daffodil Day with members of the nursing team across the state.

“This is an opportunity to recognise and thank our valuable members who support those in the community affected by cancer every day, whilst also working towards a cancer-free future,” said ANMF Branch Secretary Emily Shepherd.

“In the Year of the Nurse and the Midwife, the ANMF is committed to celebrating the care our members provide to the community, particularly when faced with the unique challenges associated with COVID-19.”

“Tomorrow we recognise the incredible contribution that the nursing team makes in supporting cancer patients and their families on their journey. This may be directly in the hospital setting, or via other areas including GP services, palliative care, and in the community.”

Most people in the community have been touched by cancer, either themselves or via a family member or friend. Tragically, nearly 150,000 Australians are diagnosed with cancer every year.

“The support and positive impact the nursing team has on patients and their families affected by cancer cannot be underestimated.”

“Our members are working above and beyond to ensure that cancer patients can continue to be solely focussed on their cancer journey, treatment, and aim for recovery despite the added risks that the COVID-19 pandemic presents. We want to take the opportunity to recognise this and thank our members.”

“This Daffodil Day is a time when hope is more important than ever.”

The ANMF will be visiting members across the state throughout the day to deliver daffodils and chocolate.

Daffodil Day is an initiative of the Cancer Council and aims to promote hope for those affected by cancer, as well as raise funds for future prevention.
