Community Nurses – Mercury Response

July 2025

The ANMF today welcomed the announcement by the Tasmanian Greens to hire 30 new Community Nurses based locally in communities across the State.

Demand for community nursing services is increasing rapidly and existing service cannot keep up, this places significant pressure on the major hospitals.

An investment in community nursing will provide ongoing benefits and assist with faster discharges from major hospitals, returning patients to their communities where they can be provided with exceptional care.

The health system is broken. We need a circuit breaker that will stop the current hamster wheel that leads to blocked hospitals and limited access to adequate services in regional areas.

We call upon all political parties to stand next to nurses and midwives and support:

  • Nurse/Midwife to patient ratios
  • ANUM/AMUMs working and funded indirectly
  • Clinical Coaches implemented to support the workforce
  • recruitment and retention investments in the Tasmanian workforce.
