Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

D Block

The ANMF has provided a formal response to the change proposal for the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) D Block Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) upgrade. While members and the ANMF recognise the importance of this project in improving patient comfort and staff working conditions, members reported concerns about the impact on patient safety, service delivery, and staff wellbeing. Renal Units

In collaboration with the Renal Units at the LGH and Kings Meadows Satellite Unit (KMSU), along with industrial representatives from the Tasmanian Health Service (THS)/Department of Health (DoH), the ANMF has reached a resolution regarding the workload grievances that were scheduled to be heard by the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) on Friday 26 September 2025. View the latest update 

Masterplan Revision

Following a meeting between the Health Minister Bridget Archer, the ANMF and a number of ANMF members on Friday 19 September 2025, highlighting multiple concerns regarding the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and access and flow, a revised Masterplan for the LGH precinct was released by the Premier Jeremy Rockliff and the Health Minister on Sunday 21 September 2025. View the latest update 

Emergency Department (ED)

Following long-standing critical staffing and capacity issues within the LGH Emergency Department, the ANMF continues to receive calls from concerned members regarding staffing shortfalls and chronic bed block. The ANMF has escalated the Step 2 grievance and lodged an application with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC). Conciliation is scheduled for Tuesday 7 October 2025. ANMF will keep members updated as this progresses. 

Ward 5D

The long-standing Step 2 grievance for a clinical coach on Ward 5D has also been escalated, with an application lodged in the TIC. Conciliation is scheduled for 7 October 2025.

In their response, the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) acknowledged that Ward 5D’s skill mix meets the criteria for consideration of a clinical coach however maintain the position should be counted out-of-direct-care numbers. They further advised that as there is no vacant Full Time Equivalent (FTE) in the unit, a clinical coach will not be recruited at this stage. The ANMF will keep members updated as this matter progresses.  

Beaconsfield District Hospital

The ANMF recently met with members who raised concerns around the staffing and skill mix currently employed at Beaconsfield District Hospital (BDH). While members are understanding of the current situation experienced by many healthcare facilities in retaining staff, it must be acknowledged that a reliance on permanent staff to do the extra shifts is not sustainable. Therefore, the ANMF would like to understand the extent BDH is relying on permanent staff to cover staffing short falls. 

Roundtable with Health Minister Bridget Archer

ANMF members from across Hospitals North attended a roundtable with Health Minister Bridget Archer to discuss concerns around access and patient flow. Representatives from community, critical care, medical, surgical, and subacute areas shared what they saw as the top three challenges, as well as possible short and longer-term solutions. Following this discussion, Minister Archer requested the ANMF facilitate similar roundtables across the North West and South of the state, set to occur in October and November. 

Allambi Relocation

ANMF Branch Secretary, Emily Shepherd, recently met with members to hear firsthand the concerns members raised around the Change Proposal to relocate Primary Health Services to a central business location. View the latest update
