Session Overview

This interactive 4-hour session for students, nurses, and midwives will use case studies and clinical simulation to update our responses to respiratory and cardiac deterioration. We will use current BLS and ALS protocols and also review the medication management and goals of care for the deteriorating patient.

What to expect

Cardiac assessment, a brief overview of heart failure and cardiac emergencies and ECG interpretation, the workshop will also be interactive with case studies and simulation using ALS protocols.

Gain skills to effectively communicate in a team environment and be confident in recognising respiratory and cardiac symptoms of distress and failure.

Presenters – Tamara Gee and Kevin Holliday

Tamara has an extensive clinical background in anaesthetics and recovery room nursing and over 15 years experience in Emergency Departments. Tamara has also an extensive educational background, one of her speciality areas is in the utilisation of clinical simulation for teaching and learning. She is the acting CPD Coordinator for the HERC/ANMF, and is a Senior Educator in the Diploma of Enrolled Nursing with HERC.

Kevin is the Account Manager for Cardinal Health here in Tasmania. Kevin’s 31-year Nursing career includes 18 years in the ICU at the Royal Adelaide Hospital as the ICU Nurse Educator, Clinical Lecturer for the University of Adelaide, Clinical Nurse Consultant for RAH Mediflight and the Medical Emergency Team.
