Public Sector Updates – North

Launceston General Hospital

Operating Room Suite

On Tuesday 18 May, the ANMF will attend the Operating Room Suite (ORS) benchmarking meeting. ANMF is currently assessing the results from the second workload survey commissioned to assess for improvements in workloads following the December 2020 survey. There is still a live Step 1 Grievance pending and the ANMF is also assessing workload forms already received, to provide information for these discussions. The information provided in both surveys will inform discussion at the benchmarking process for the 2021 staffing profile. Further updates to follow.

Emergency Department

The ANMF have secured a win for Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Emergency Department (ED) members with 21.3 FTE to be allocated to fix workload concerns related to safety and bed block. The increased FTE will be over and above the 2020 benchmarking number that secured safe staffing for the triage area. View the update sent to members here.

Northside

On Monday 3 May 2021, the ANMF held a meeting with members at Northside. Members raised concerns about roster gaps, overtime, double shifts, working short, acuity and skill mix and subsequently endorsed a Step 1 Grievance. The ANMF are in the process of writing to Tasmanian Health Service (THS) Mental Health Service management to raise these concerns. Updates to follow.

Beaconsfield

The ANMF was successful in advocating for members at Beaconsfield to have union representation at the roster committee meeting held on 12 May 2021. The ANMF has received correspondence from the THS regarding the roster changes, which we will take to members at a member meeting scheduled 18 May 2021.

Deloraine District Hospital

Members at Deloraine District Hospital have notified the ANMF of change to the span of hours for healthcare workers as a result of the District Hospitals Safe Staffing Model. As this change was not discussed in the Business Rules of this model, the ANMF has written to the THS requesting they provide members with a change proposal for an adequate period of consultation and trial.
