Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH)

Ward 3D Paediatric Outpatient

The ANMF held a member meeting with RHH Ward 3D Paediatric Outpatient members on Thursday 18 September 2025. The meeting was held to provide feedback on the response received from management (on Monday 25 August 2025), regarding the Step One Grievance lodged by the ANMF on behalf of members on Wednesday 13 August 2025.

At the meeting, members requested that the ANMF:

  • Remain at Step One and seek further clarification from management regarding the response received, before deciding whether escalation to Step Two Grievance is required.

In addition, members raised concerns regarding late or missed meal breaks. The ANMF confirms that per the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Award, SECTION B. SPECIAL CONDITIONS – DAY WORKERS ONLY (b) Meal Breaks

  • An employee may work in excess of five hours but not more than six hours at the base salary rate without a meal break.
  • If a meal break is not commenced at six hours of work, the employee must be paid at time and one half of the base salary rate until a meal break is taken.

The ANMF has advised members to:

  • Ensure this allowance is noted on timesheets when applicable.
  • Lodge an SLRS when a meal break is not taken, so that management can track and address this issue if it is recurring.

The ANMF also advised members to review and begin to complete the following workload survey. If members decide to escalate to Step Two, these responses will provide important evidence to support workload concerns.

Thank you to all members who engaged in this important discussion. The ANMF will arrange another member meeting once further clarification is received from management, to seek your instructions on next steps.
