Launceston General Hospital (LGH)

Capacity Management

The ANMF has been informed by members at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) of repeated threats from executive management indicating that, if sufficient patient discharges are not achieved, wards will be expected to receive patients from the Emergency Department (ED) to be nursed in ward corridors. Emergency Department (ED)

The ANMF is meeting with management and the Departments’ industrial relations representatives on Friday 28 November 2025 to discuss the ongoing dispute, the ANMF has continued to request vacancy data from the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) – and has been making this request since February! To date, the department is still unable to confirm vacancies in LGH ED, nor are they able to confirm expected start dates of the international recruits that they have informed are coming. The report back meeting for this matter will be heard in the TIC Friday 5 December 2025. The ANMF will update members further after this meeting. 

Ward 5D

The ANMF attended the third TIC conference regarding the Ward 5D workload grievance from 2023. Despite repeated attempts to progress this, the Department continues to refuse the introduction of an indirect Clinical Coach and has not proposed any viable alternative supports for members working on Ward 5D. While THS provided some data at the conference, this information was more than six weeks old and did not accurately reflect the current fixed-term vacancies on the ward. The ANMF expressed strong concern about the lack of meaningful progress, the limited information provided to date, and the serious risk that Ward 5D will shortly have no Clinical Nurse Educator (CNE) coverage if job cards are not actioned urgently. 

The Deputy President also expressed disappointment at the lack of progress and has listed the matter for a report-back/directions hearing on Friday 12 December 2025. If a resolution is not reached at this meeting, the grievance will proceed to arbitration. The ANMF will meet with members prior to the scheduled report back meeting on Friday 12 December 2025 to discuss further. 

 Acute Medical Unit (AMU)

The ANMF has written to advise management that members have endorsed the benchmarking increase. The ANMF has requested confirmation of the increase by Thursday 18 December 2025. 

 Ward 4N

The ANMF writes to update members on the benchmarking undertaken for Ward 4N at the LGH on Tuesday 21 October 2025. View the latest update. 

Allambi 

The hearing that was listed with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission (TIC) on Tuesday 11 November 2025 has been relisted for Thursday 4 December 2025 at 1400hrs. Once the ANMF has an outcome we will share this with members.
