Safe Travel After Shifts – ANMF Calls for Action

No nurse, midwife or Assistant in Nursing (AIN) should have to choose between their safety and getting to and from work. Members should not be forced to walk feeling unsafe and that they are at risk simply to attend their workplace.

ANMF Tasmania has been actively advocating for improved after-hours safety measures, including access to safe and secure parking, following ongoing concerns from members who are being required to walk long distances through poorly lit areas when starting or finishing shifts at night.

We have raised these concerns directly with the Health Minister and the Minister for Transport and are continuing to push for practical solutions that ensure all healthcare workers can travel to and from work safely.

Updates are correct as of 21 October 2026.
